Voodoo Songs
On 1st September 2024, an innovative musical project was launched, dedicated to one of the most beloved icons of Italian design of the last twenty years. After being displayed in museums and welcomed into the homes of many Hollywood stars, the Voodoo knife set (known in the US as The Ex), first introduced by Raffaele Iannello in 2003, is now celebrated through a couple of albums available on all major music streaming platforms. A limited-edition vinyl release for collectors is also coming soon.
In total there are 40 songs: each is a unique reinterpretation of the same lyrics, with completely different vocals and musical style. The album “Il set di coltelli Voodoo” includes 25 tracks in Italian, crafted for a cutting-edge musical journey. The album “The Voodoo Knife Set”, with 15 tracks in English, brings this sonic experience to an international audience.

The album covers feature a young woman embracing the Voodoo knife set in its iconic red version. Her direct and determined gaze immediately captures attention, conveying a message of security and possession. It’s as if she’s saying: “If you want me, know that I already have it. And if you desire it, know that it’s already mine”. This visual narrative creates symbolic tension between the product and the viewer/listener’s desire, playing on the interaction between attraction and ownership, concepts that can take on different meanings depending on the perspective or emotions evoked by those engaging with the image.

The decision to release a vinyl edition reflects the author’s intent to bring his primary expertise in product and graphic design to this project, creating a collectible item also within the music world. The vinyl record is, in fact, not merely a medium for sound but a physical artwork that can be displayed on a shelf or framed and hung on a wall. In this way, the music is not only listened to but also experienced as part of a broader, tangible, and multisensory artistic narrative.
Here are the videos created to announce the release of the two albums:
Now all that’s left is for you to listen through the tracks and, if you’d like, let us know what you think. Enjoy listening!
