Dialoghi Affilati
Every year, the Italian Association of Contemporary Art Museums (AMACI) shines a spotlight on contemporary art with a special event: the Giornata del Contemporaneo, when museums and galleries across Italy stay open late and transform their exhibition spaces into hotbeds of creativity. In 2023, on the occasion of this nationwide celebration, Dialoghi Affilati (“Sharp Dialogues”) opened in Milan: an immersive exhibition, as cutting in its content as it was captivating in its form.
At the center of this visual duel: two artists with opposite yet complementary trajectories: Rafz (Raffaele Iannello) and SantaSeveso (Simona Seveso). Two visions, two approaches, and a single shared object: the knife. In this creative face-off, the blade shed its everyday function to become provocation, poetry, and visual energy.
Rafz, known for his hyper-technological aesthetic, staged knives that pulsed with light and motion. Video projections, holographic installations, and light refractions turned steel into an immersive experience. A pop-industrial aesthetic that sliced through both air and imagination.
SantaSeveso, in stark contrast, chose transparency as her language. Using recycled plexiglas, elusive reflections, and repurposed materials, she created poetic, weightless blades. Works that disarmed the gaze and subverted familiar meanings.

Dialoghi Affilati was not just an exhibition. It was a visual and conceptual clash, a duel of form and meaning, a narrative suspended between function and danger, beauty and tension. The knife emerged as a symbol. Stripped of utility, charged with emotion, transformed into metaphor, spark, and friction. A show that cut through space and perception alike.
