Idea (Milan)
The IDEA show, curated by Niklas Jacob, took place in Milan from 17 to 22 April 2018 at the Superstudio exhibition space.
Jacob invited designers from all over the world to reflect on the phenomenon of the Design Supermarket which, in the last decades, has upset the traditional furnishing sector. The IKEA brand, with the concept of flat-pack and do-it-yourself assembly, has indeed changed consumer habits and imposed new rules on the market. With this exhibition, a slightly different scenario was hypothesized.
Those presented at the IDEA exhibition are ‘plausible’ products, namely ironic objects that IKEA would never produce, although they are technically and philosophically in line with the brand.
The products on display are by Angeletti & Ruzza, Davide Anzalone, Dodo Arslan, Dana Avrish, Manolo Bossi, Riccardo Diotallevi, Roberto Giacomucci, Dov Ganchrow, Gumdesign, Raffaele Iannello, Niklas Jacob, Joevelluto, Raviv Lifshitz, Daniel Llorca, MAd. sign, Hiroshi Ono, Ely Rozenberg, and Kay Thoss.
Raffaele Iannello presented Jävla (translation in Swedish of the exclamation “Damn!”). It is a game for children, interpretation of the wheel of the knife thrower present in the circus world.
After Milan, the exhibition also took place in Eindhoven and Copenhagen. All the works on display are showed in the official catalog.
